I will admit, when I first heard about the changes coming to the Independent, I was hesitant to accept them. I am a creature of habit, and I have never been a fan of change of any kind.

However as the days have passed, I have set aside my doubts and realized that our plans for this publication are very positive. They will allow us the opportunity to expand and grow.

I love my job, and I love this newspaper. When I was first approached about joining the Independent I was apprehensive and overwhelmed, uncertain that I could accomplish what was being asked of me.

It’s still a work in progress, but I am incredibly proud of the product we’ve put together. It has been my absolute pleasure to serve the Sequatchie Valley.

On that same note, I am very excited to have been asked to continue to do what I have been doing for a community that I have fallen in love with, that welcomed my family with open arms several years ago. The support that I have received, the friends that I have made, and the trust that has been placed in me by the people across the Sequatchie Valleyhas been truly humbling.

I simply cannot thank this community enough for that.

Please bear with us during the immediate future as we work through the changes that are coming, but rest assured that the publication you have become familiar with will continue to arrive each week.

One of the changes to be noted is that we will no longer have an office location in Jasper, Tennessee. We’re shifting resources and joining with a sister paper down the road. Honestly, the team behind this product just got much larger, and that’s a good thing for you, the reader.

I will continue to cover the area as I have been, and I will remain your contact in the Sequatchie Valley for your news, sports and events.

I live in Marion County and my five children attend school here. None of that is changing. You will still see me out and about at local meetings and events, and as always, I welcome your emails and calls of content and/or suggestions.

If you have any questions about this transition, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can still be reached at Kathie.tierney@svindependent.com, anytime.

Again, thank you for your support, and I look forward to continuing this venture with you.
