Due to extreme drought conditions across the Valley, with increased windy weather, the risk for wildfires is great.  At press time, several fires were burning in and around Marion County, and local fire departments were battling to contain them.

Earlier this year, South Pittsburg Mayor Jane Dawkins secured a Community Facilities Grant in the amount of $48,200 through the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development to help purchase new equipment for the city’s firefighters.

 On Sunday morning, authorities in Marion County arrested an Alabama man, Warren Hardy, who is suspected of shooting and killing a 72-year-old Huntsville, Alabama woman last Friday.

Metalworking Solutions specializing in sheet metal fabrication of OEM parts, announced last week that they were nearing completion of their equipment and facility expansion initiative, which began implementation last Fall. Over $2.5 million of the initiative is in place and in production. The final phase of equipment should be implemented by the end of summer. The addition to the facility should be completed and operational by Thanksgiving.
